A motorcycle officer was injured in a crash on Santa Monica Boulevard Sunday night, police said.

LAPD Officer Christopher Boulton, a 35-year-old member of the motorcycle division, was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with head and leg injuries and a broken right forearm, LAPD officials said Sunday night.

Police said it does not appear Boulton was wearing a helmet.

The accident happened at 8:12 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard, according to a police statement.

The motorcycle crashed into a Honda Element, which was being driven by a 28-year-old woman from Pasadena, police said. The driver was listed in critical condition at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center Sunday night.

The LAPD and CHP officers are investigating the crash, police said.

The crash is the latest traffic incident to impact an area where Culver City and Los Angeles County have fought for decades over a long-running battle for road space.

The problem is a longstanding and contentious one: Culver City has long sought access to public road space in the city so it can build a new light rail line through unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Los Angeles County has resisted that access as well.

The two sides have fought for road space in the city for decades – in part, a battle over whether the county has to share access with Culver City when it constructs the Green Line light rail project.
