I Wish My Grandfather Would Go Away

Letters to the Editor: Trump announced, and the media are already failing like it’s 2016

My name is Robert B. Young, and I am the grandson of Robert H. Young who was the former president of the United States from 1933-1937.

I have watched the presidential election with great dismay. At what point did Donald Trump cease to be simply a reality TV star and start to become something more akin to the actual President of the United States?

The answer we get is that the people who were elected have to “get the job done.” Why else would a man who does not even hold a college degree be elected?

I have been to the White House and been to several of the recent addresses by Donald Trump. He has been impressive as a deal-making, self-aggrandizing, self-promoting, self-pitying, self-justifying, self-defeating, self-destructing, and self-inflating human being.

And to think he is running for president of the United States.

I have watched his antics play out like a playboy show from hell.

I don’t know anyone who wishes they had been voted to the White House, but I wish my grandfather Donald Trump would go away because I will not tolerate any more of his unmitigated narcissism.

When Trump says, “it is a terrible thing when a political campaign is so negative,” you know the person is not telling the truth. You can tell the truth to him and he will laugh in your face, but he also might not take you seriously. When you tell him “I have a very hard time understanding the negative aspects of a campaign,” he will say, “Get a grip on it. It is not for the media to criticize.” I believe that.

Do you know why “media critics” have so much power over the media? The media have always been, and are now, for the most part
