Once a Star of College Basketball, Kevin Ollie Is Now Disrupting It

Former star Kevin Ollie is now disrupting the college basketball world by recruiting, mentoring and coaching.

The University of Houston and University of North Carolina both welcomed Kevin Ollie as their new men’s basketball coaches on the eve of the 2016-17 season. The former star of the University of Texas and Kentucky Wildcats has coached his own players as a head coach with the Australian rules football club the ‘Bruva Bax.’

Ollie, the former University of Tennessee and Kentucky Wildcats star, is now known as “The Coach.” He’s been recruiting, mentoring, and coaching players for months from his home in Australia to the US and is now taking his team to California, where he wants players to come for the 2017-18 season.

Ollie is the first-ever coach from Australia to leave the NBA to run a program.

The former Kentucky head coach is now the NCAA’s highest-paid coach, at $2.5 million per year, plus another $1.5 million for his staff of 12. He’s also coaching in Australia, where he is a head coach at the Australian rules football club the ‘Bruva Bax.’

This is the very first time in history that anyone has been able to coach for the NCAA and leave the NBA at the same time

In the early morning of August 4, the University of Houston announced the hiring of Ollie as its new head coach.

Ollie had been the team’s assistant coach under Larry Brown and was a first-round pick by the Boston Celtics in the 2002 NBA draft.
